Start the week with important stuff: Monday 13, January 2020

So many pages taken up by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and their wants, dislikes and the like.

What's it all about? A child marries, has a child and wants to leave the family firm. Common happenings - I'd hazard a guess that it's daily event - in the real world.

So much conjecture, so many sabres being rattled and pet causes paraded and soapboxed over.
So many opinions and yet, of course, no facts - only the family and a few aides have that.

Meanwhile there are natural disasters, conflicts, real inequality and poverty all lying beneath the detritus of this all too public and relatively unimportant distraction:

823,145 emergency food parcels given to people in crisis by food banks in the Trussell Trust network between April to September 2019. This is important.

4,000,000 children: Almost 33% of children in the UK live in poverty (that's approximately nine children in an average-sized classroom). in 2020 this will rise to 5,000,000!

67% of children living in poverty have at least one parent in work (so it's not about scroungers or the lazy)

Homelessness and rough sleeping numbers are on the rise (306 nightly sleeping rough in Westminster).

That's a few things to be praying about this week and to discuss and raise awareness of with those you engage with.

And do pray for The Queen as once again her family work hard at undoing all the good stuff she does; and pray for Harry and Meghan (and the rest of the family) that this is sorted soon.

As we rejoice in the gift of this new day,
so may the light of your presence, O God,
set our hearts on fire with love for you;
now and for ever. Amen.

Pax
