The tale of the rain and the roofer!

Friday 7th May it rained - a lot (thats over two pints of water that accumulated.

Things got wet

And water appeared in a few places ...

and caused the computer to be a bit unhappy.

And me to be pretty sad too

Turns out someone had been on the roof and broken a time (we suspect it was a roofer working on the house who'd seen some tiles that had been left on the flat roof over the church toilet and used them to repair the church roof (which has always leaked since we came her in 2006!)

We have various leaks in our church roof, which the rain today will find out. We have two skylights over our side Aisle with wooden frames which are rotted and need urgent repair. We had a grant to do the work, than Covid came.

The grant has lapsed, so needs to be reapplied for. We have a potential builder who works on churches around the area, but he will need to erect specialist scaffolding to get to the roof to measure up the skylights and to have replacements made in keeping with the originals installed in 1850 when the church was built. The appearance of buckets strategically placed to catch leaks is a regular happening. We have been fortunate so far, that the leaks have not appeared elsewhere, there is one on the side Annex, which houses the Lady Chapel, but they have been there for years with buckets placed there on a permanent basis.

I hope that your repairs can be made soon, as we want ours done when the summer really appears.

We've had no carpet on the stairs since before I arrived at the clergy house because when it rains the stairs become a waterfall.

The leaks get patched and the repair of one at the moment saw a visiting workman pinch some spare slates on the flat roof next to mt study and break a tile and cause the leak that has broken my computer :-(

New rains but ...
