Underpinning our ministry

Two of the most enabling parts of my daily life are my morning office and the examen. One sets my feet on the right path for the day and the other examines the journey the day has taken.

Every morning, making time to read the Bible and to reflect and pray on what has been read, this is what sets us on the right path for the day. My mother used to tell me that I needed a proper breakfast to make the day go right (my usual breakfast was a coke, Juicy fruit and a choc ice!) but that only happened on weekends and holidays!

The same is true of living the day as a Christian - the word provides the foundations and the event of the day are built upon it - which is why I post the daily office most days (in the hope others will read it too).
Being Christian - ethnically Christian - every day should begin and end with prayer (and that's a minimum requirement as I understand it). This is not some 'religious' observance but merely a normal thing (don't you say 'good morning' and 'good night' to the people you live or work with? Why should it be any different with God?).

And then there are times when the tide goes out or the storms appear - this is the time to make time to pray about the things, people, situations and whatever else is before you too. Too many people make prayer a thing rather than a habit. Is this why the Church struggles and the Christians fall by the wayside as casualties to sin and the sinful?

Walk through the day with God - chat to Him - complain to Him - listen to Him and then, at the close of the day engage in the Examen -

This is the place where we reflect on the day's journey and:
give thanks for the day that is coming to its close and show
gratitude - for the things that have blessed us (and others);
sorrow for the places, things and words that have caused us to fall short.

This leads us into:
repentance and from that comes the determination to
overcome and be changed by the forgiveness and love of God.
