Compline (night prayer) - Wednesday, 9 June 2021

In the presence of the Creator, with Jesus our brother and King and the Holy Spirit (our paraclete) we look at the reflections on the lake that is our day and reflect on the detritus of sin beneath the surface.

As the Lord restores all to its sinless state we take our rest and look to fare better tomorrow.

As we engage in the Examen:
reflecting, repenting, rejoicing and acknowledging the God above all Gods,
take us to our beds and sleep that we might rise and make God's love known in us to all we meet tomorrow.

Our day is like a sandwich with the good and the not so good containing all that the day has been.
Taking all that the day has been we thank you for all it was we lay it, with thanks,
at Your feet as we head for bed looking towards a new day in which to serve You.

Lord of the dance that joins three in one,
may the unity and concord of all that You are gather us in;
the move of the Spirit and the incarnate Son,
Join us with our Creator God and make us complete.

Stay with us, O God, this night, so that by your strength
we may rise with the new day to rejoice in the resurrection of your Son,
Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.

Holy God, faithful and unchanging: enlarge our minds with the knowledge of your truth,
and draw us more deeply into the mystery of your love,
that we may truly worship you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.

This night may the broken in body, mind and spirit know Your presence and peace.
The nations divided and in conflict know justice and mercy towards others.
May tomorrow be a day to bless others and be blessed as we follow the footsteps of Jesu, the Christ.

The Lord, our God, is One; praised by day and by night;
praised when we lie down and praised when we awake.
We place into His care our spirit and entrust Him with our lives;
for He is with us and we are His whether we wake or sleep.
