Museum of Army Chaplaincy

Following today's link to 'Woodbine Willie' I think it would be a good idea to publicise the The Royal Army Chaplain's Department (RAChD) Museum at the Armed Force's Chaplaincy Centre (Amport House, Amport, Hants SP11 8BG).

This has to be one of the best smaller military museums that there is and the Curator, David Blake, works hard to collect and display a variety of artefacts and documents relating to the role of the Chaplain in an Army setting.

The Museum is open from 09:30 to 17:00 It is helpful to book before you come (but not apparently necessary - but bring ID if you are just rocking up) and you can do this on 01264 773144 extn 4248.

If you'd like to find out more about the VC Chaplain's (photo's below), get a feel for the place of the Christian faith in the Far Eastern conflics and more besides, this is the place to visit and better still, it's free.

Three VC Chaplain's: Mellish, Addison and Hardy

Thank you for your interest and support in this area,

Vic

Nick, as in Old said...

Been there a few times! Very worthwhile, but I feel it ought to be widened to cover all three services now. However, the stories of the three Army Padres to be awarded VCs make it worth a detour.

As Amport House is Tri-Service it would make sense to explore extending the museum (and it would need extending) the remit of the Museum. That said I know the Curator is pretty well-stretched with the task of Army only.

I'm hoping when he reads this the Curator will perhaps write about the museum and potential for expansion.
