It seems to me that more and more I find myself encountering people who provide me with extremely convincing answers to questions. In fact upon first hearing, it is easy to believe what they are saying and it is only later, when in discussion with others, or reflecting upon what has been said that you realise that you've been effectively been sold a line!
The challenge that those who call themselves 'Christian' are also called thus:
"Don’t say anything you don’t mean. This counsel is embedded deep in our traditions.
You only make things worse when you lay down a smoke screen of pious talk, saying, ‘I’ll pray for you,’ and never doing it, or saying, ‘God be with you,’ and not meaning it. You don’t make your words true by embellishing them with religious lace. In making your speech sound more religious,(or misrepresenting the truth) it becomes less true.
Just say ‘yes’ and ‘no.’ When you manipulate words to get your own way, you go wrong." Matt 5:33 - 37
Those of us who are called to leadership within the Christian Church are called to exhibit even more integrity, for if we don't what model do those new believers have before them?
Let's hope we are!
