Doves at funerals

Keeping with the theme of funerals; a couple of year's back I did a funeral where doves were released during the committal.

The chap who provided the doves arrived about fifteen minutes before the service to sort out where he was going to release them from. During his preparation he stopped to explain that what they release when you see all those doves of peace released were, like his, not doves at all but actually a specially bred white homing pigeon; doves you see have no homing instinct and would, one released fly around until they found somewhere they could settle down.

He went on for about ten minutes with serendipitous information about pigeons, doves and the like, and would surely have continued for much longer if it hadn't been for the hearse arriving.

As the hearse stopped, the 'dove man' came rushing alongside in a bit of a fluster. "I've forgotten to ask you what word you would like to use to let me know to realise the pigeons," he said.

"That's simple," I replied, "Pull!"

Apparently the man refused to work with me again after that.

No sense of humour some people ;-)
