Made me smile - 'my seat'

Saw this and it made me laugh as I remembered visiting a church on holiday a couple of year's back for the early communion.

I took the hymnbook and went to sit down when the person handing them out stopped me and informed me that that was where one of the 'regulars' sat.

Dutifully I moved along to another pew and sat, awaiting the presence of this stalwart member, but they never appeared. As I left I asked what might have happened to the missing communicant only to be told, 'Well they don't come that often these days, but if they had come, that would have been where they sat!'

Nothing like a welcoming church (take that as a statement or an aspiration) :-)

Seats are the only thing that shouldn't be "saved" in church.

This actually happened to me the first time I went to a large kirk in Glasgow in 1981. In fact I had to move 3 or 4 times. I did go back and before long had a reserved seat of my own - by joining the choir!
