Japan - Judgement for opposing Israel?

I have just received an email which appears to state that the Earthquake in Japan is a direct result of that nation's support of Palestine. It's taken from something called the 'Daily Jot' and emantes from the pen of a chap by the name of 'Bill Wilson', A Christian journalist, professional writer, and commentator on current events relating to the relationship between the United States, Israel and Islam. Apparently he's available for bookings as a speaker (think I'll save my money and protect my sheep!

The item is entitled "more on the prophetic nature of Japan's earthquake" and it despite my misgivings shared in 'accentuate the positive', I offer this to you for your assessment (I might just be reading it wrong!):

"The full statement that Japan made on March 11, 2010--one year to the day before the earthquake--was: "The Government of Japan deplores the decisions of the Government of Israel to give per...mission for the construction of 1,600 housing units in East Jerusalem in addition to 112 units in West Bank just after the Israeli and Palestinian leadership's acceptance of the start of indirect talks. The Government of Japan does not recognize any act that prejudges the final status of Jerusalem and the territories in the pre-1967 borders. Japan demands that the plans should not be implemented." The Daily Jot incorrectly stated previously that Japan had done this Friday, but there is much more.

On March 1 of this year the Palestinian National Authority announced that it had signed an agreement with Japan to provide $32.5 million for a project of treating waste water in the Palestinian-occupied town of Jericho. It was reported as one of the biggest projects aided by Japan in the Palestinian territories to supply industrial areas with water. The PNA noted in the announcement that since 1993, Japan had given the PNA more than a billion dollars, including $40 million in developing the Jordan Valley area in the West Bank. The PNA said that the agreement is "vita, strategic and important to help the PNA finalize building the institutions of the future Palestinian state."

Japan is instrumental in helping build out a Palestinian state on the West Bank (traditional lands of Judea and Samaria), yet is critical and demanding of Israel for building housing units for its own citizens. On January 11 this year, Japan's Foreign Ministry said it "condemns the demolishing of a part of the Shepherd's Hotel in East Jerusalem with a view to constructing new housing units for Jewish people." A month later on February 10, Japan's Foreign Ministry said Israel's plan to build housing unites for "Jewish people in Sheih Jarrah of East Jerusalem" is against efforts of the international community to resume peace negotiations. A month later, Japan is hit with a historic earthquake.

Daily Jot sources point out that the earthquake in Japan caused tsunami flooding in industrial areas, and the money Japan gave to the Palestinians was for wastewater treatment to supply water to industrial areas of a new Palestinian State. The United States also is guilty of giving billions of dollars to the Palestinians over the years. And the current US president is condemning the Israeli homebuilding as well. Keep in mind that Japan's fault-line is part of the infamous "ring of fire" where about 90% of the world's earthquakes occur. This includes the entire Pacific coast of America. Zechariah 2:8 says of Zion, "for he that touches you touches the apple of Lord's eye." Japan and America share the same "Fault" line. What is next?"

So, if I read this right, God has acted against the people of Japan because they have acted against Israel, the apple of 'God's eye'.

Sorry Bill, but you and I appear to have a very different God.

I suppose that we all have extremists, and this appears to be one.

Sadly, he probably has loads of followers.

I am not going to dictate what God can and cannot do with a creation that has rebelled against him (ie, the whole of humanity), but I think it is dangerous to be making up reasons, that God has not revealed as to why he may want to judge a particular nation.

It is dangerous, because if I were to say God has judged Japan for X reason, then my nation must be immune from his judgment, which it is not. The truth is, God bears with great patience the wickedness of man, and the thing we must ask is not why he bears his wrath against a particular group of people, but rather why has he spared us from that same wrath? Could we also not taste loss or even death at any time? Should these events not shake us and every other nation to immediate repentance?

Well said Simon ! Its brutal to not just stand and watch the grief of the Japanese but also crush them with such words of reasons. Well who are you and I to be spared from the wrath of God? Are we not grieving Him someway or the other everyday and even now by being so heartless to thousands of people's sufferings? Is this the kind of religion God asked us to practice in the Gospels and Epistles? Yes God is a righteous judge. If this is what His judgement is like, its time to shiver before him and mend our ways first and foremost... instead of throwing such words all across the internet !

The Internet give access to so much information and provides access to much that edifies and also, sadly, stuff that borders on the insane.

The 'God's vengeance on Japan because. . . ' demonstrates that these people know nothing of God and the only person they are hearing is from the other camp.

Thanks for comments,

If the writer of the article had invented a link between Japan's hard line on Jews building in their own land and the earthquake which came exactly one year later because he wished it to be so, then it would be understandable to casually write off his conclusions.

If, however he formed this opinion on something which the Bible itself proclaims, then we ought to be more cautious about decrying his words as ridiculous.

One cannot deny that the Bible records God saying that He would bless those who bless the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Genesis 12:3, 26:3, 27:29, 28:4) and that He would curse those who curse those same people. Time has amply demonstrated the truth of His promise, with regime after regime who sought to harm the Jews lying on the trash-heap of history, while the Jews live on, seemingly untouched by the vitriol of their numerous enemies.

What I find tragic is the distancing of this vicar from the worship of the God of the Bible, boldly proclaiming that he worships another.

In the Bible, God does call Israel "the apple of My eye" (Deut. 32:10, Psalm 17:8, Lamentations 2:18, Zechariah 2:8) and refers to Himself using only one nationally associated appellation... "The God of Israel" (a total of 202 times). Not once does He call Himself the God of the Church of England (0 times)... so perhaps you are right. The question is, if the God of the Bible (the God of Israel) is not your God, then who is?

I believe that Israel is the Apple of God's eye too, but I do not see in the ersatz, secular state that is modern israel anything that has to do with God. In fact I see a group of people who are seeking to have less and less to do with God.

So you can find the posts as tragic as you like but when a nation breaks man's laws, flouts God's laws and commandments and acts as it does to deny God then you can assume that I will not be supporting it or its actions.

Israel is more than a name, it is a spiritual nation and all those who do the 'Israel, right or wrong, is always right offer up support that contradicts the commandments and entreaties of God.

He is the God of israel yet Israel says in word and action, "We have no God but ourselves and our ambitions!"

Thanks for your post,

<< Zechariah 12:3 >>

On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.

The nation state of Israel is not the spiritual nation of Israel that the Bible speaks of, and of whom I have support of, and pray for. In fact, a recent broadcast from israel regarding it's secular status had members of the government who were looking to make Israel 'less Jewish' - to turn away from YHWH is not just meshubah but is also meshuggeneh!

Supporting the excesses, wrongs and wickedness of modern, secular, israel is not blessing israel but engaging in what is contrary to that which God would have for His people.

To assume that God could act against a nation (i.e. Japan) because it is critical of Israel is, in my humble opinion, bordering on the insane, not being spiritual and does nothing but demonstrate that you might have little concept of the God who used the cross as a means of salvation.

Anyway, I will embark on a little journey of exploration regarding this over the coming days and hopefully we can find a place where Bible, reason and balance might be found.

How do you come to the conclusion that it is "spiritual Israel"??? the Bible does not state this as far as I am aware.

Balance is fine as long as it is Gods idea of balance not mans compromise of his word and promise... All of the promises for Israel and jerusalem cannot simply be pushed aside as they dont fit our idea of Gods character, Paul himself said that Israels blinding was only temporary for the sake of us gentiles.

Hi Anon - time for you to come and play with regard to Israel.

I have put up a baseline for zionism and antisemitism - what do you think about them I wonder?

It isn't so much the wrath of God as it is the wrath of Israel. It has been documented that an Israeli company was in charge of the security and had access to the Fukashima reactors. The idea that all the back up generators would fail and four reactors would simply blow up and utterly destroy 12 foot thick steel containment walls is ludicrous. A hydrogen gas explosion is not capable of tearing apart a 12 foot thick steel containment vessel. Furthermore, video footage proves that there was no ground damage to any structures prior to the tsunami devastating the shoreline community. This proves that there was no earthquake but rather a wave which was induced by massive underwater detonations. This has all been documented in excruciating detail by independent researchers.
