Rapture Coming - Better cancel the holiday!

What a pain! I've been out and booked tickets for the theatre in August only to find that according to one person obviously in the know, Harold Camping, the rapture has been booked for Saturday, May 21st.

Now, not only does this mean that I'm not going to se the show but it also means holiday plans are scuppered too! Of course the reality is that we are called to live each day as if it were our last, something that few, even those for whom today is likely to be their last, seem to do.

So ignoring this wonderful prophetic prediction, I think we'd all be best employed sharing God's word and populating heaven, the stuff we're called to do.

Back to our fridge magnet, "Jesus is coming - look busy!"

Take your pick

He shall come like a thief in the night at a time unknown - or is this now defunct theology?

This guy and his ministry, Family Radio, would have been great point of discussion on your "cults" feature from a while back.

This guy claims that God has divinely revealed to him how to interpret the Scriptures using numerology and "Bible codes" to arrive at a rapture date of May 21st 2011 and an end of the world date in October 2011.

He also claims that all church denominations are apostate. Anyone attending a Church by May 21st will NOT be raptured and instead left behind.

The sad reality is that many, many people have been deceived into giving up everything for this belief. There are people who are now street preaching the end of the world, who have sold everything, even their homes, emptied their savings and devoted the whole lot to preaching May 21st to the world.

We should pray that as the date passes and Camping's lies become evident that there are churches around and ready to offer help and love to such people who have been drastically deceived.

Unfortunately, as we learn from other cultist groups, failed prophecies only seem to strengthen their following, not damage it.

Thanks,

Simon

I have been monitoring this gentleman on my blog for some time now. I'm intrigued to know which of the possible results will be the true one: will he be proved right, or alternatively, will we be witness to some more hermeneutical gymnastics as he tries to explain why the world didn't end after all?

Oh.

Well I was going to take my curtains down and wash them. Doesn't seem much point now.

Humph

Of course he could be wrong but I'm sure that being his 2nd attempt he will have got it right this time...

Excuse me whilst I go and bang my head against something solid.
